This week’s wine is one of my favourite Ontario Rosés! It comes from Featherstone Winery owned by husband and wife team, David Johnson and and Louise Engel, in the Twenty Mile Bench. Featherstone is a boutique winery that creates limited small-lot wines using insecticide-free and eco-friendly farming. The hands-on artisanal winemaking process that Featherstone uses, allows the winery to make exceptional wines that reflect the unique character of the grapes grown on the 23-acre vineyard. Wines like their Rosé are a great example of the artistry that goes into winemaking at Featherstone. The Featherstone Rosé is made from Cabernet Franc, Gamay and Merlot grapes. It’s a dry style Rosé bursting with vibrant flavours of red berries like strawberry, cherry and raspberry. The lively acidity of the Featherstone Rosé makes it easy for food pairing! This Rosé will match great with white meat dishes, cheese and charcuterie plates, and lunch sandwiches.
Featherstone’s 2017 Rosé is available at the LCBO now, and the 2018 vintage will be released in July. You can purchase the 2018 Rosé from Featherstone’s online retail store or you can pay a visit to the winery. And I encourage you to visit the winery! The Featherstone tasting room just re-opened on April 5th. I got to visit Featherstone Winery last year for the Muddy Paws Festival and I can’t wait to go back! The tasting room is located in a beautiful old white home on the most picturesque property. You can enjoy wood fire pizza on the veranda and the winery is dog friendly! Rosé, pizza and your dog in an idyllic country setting…doesn’t get much better than that!
