Wine of the Week: Crios Torrontés

I am so excited for the first day of Spring this week! While it may not feel very much like Spring outside, the wine pick of the week is certainly going to taste like spring. The Wine of the Week is the Susana Balbo Crios Torrontés Torrontés is a white grape from Argentina. Torrontés is very aromatic wine (meaning a lot of perfumed flavours – think of Riesling or Moscato) with a medium body and acidity. A lot of aromatic wines are on the sweeter side, but Torrontés is typically made in a dry style – the perfect combination! The aromatic dry style of Torrontés also means that it pairs well with a lot of foods like spicy Indian or Asian dishes. I had the Crios Torrontés with coconut curry chicken and it was delicious!

Susana Balbo Crios Torrontes White Wine - Wine of the Week

I first tried the Crios Torrontés back in October during my WSET wine course. I instantly fell in love with the wine’s interesting combination of perfumed flavours and dry style. I’ve been waiting to introduce this wine to you and knew that the first week of spring was the perfect time! The Crios Torrontés offers a bouquet of wonderful aromas and flavours – white flowers, peach, lemon, grapefruit, green apple, apricot, honeysuckle and lemon. This bouquet and flavours is beautifully expressed through the medium body, acidity and minerality. And while the Crios Torrontés may smell sweet, it’s actually a very dry wine. The Crios Torrontés is also great value – only $14.95 at the LCBO. I can’t think of a better way to welcome in the first week of spring than with a bottle of the Crios Torrontés!
